We have an “after work, whoever is around” friends walking group and find it is a perfect way to end the day, particularly if you have been sitting at a desk for most of it! We are lucky where we live as we have many beautiful walks on our doorstep; this picture shows one of my favourites.
As an ex coronary care nurse I am well aware of the significant health benefits that can be gained by this gentle, low-impact form of exercise. Walking is one of the easiest ways to get more active as it is suitable for people of all ages and most abilities; you can do it solo or with friends and the best thing is – it’s free!
8 health benefits of regular walking:
- Reduces the risk of heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes
- Helps to keep weight under control
- Can help prevent dementia and osteoporosis
- Tones your legs, bum and tum!
- Boosts vitamin D levels
- Helps you sleep
- Gives you energy
- Makes you happy!
….. so what’s stopping you?
