As some of you will have read, the team at MRC got up extra early last Tuesday morning to raise money for a very worthwhile cause. We completed a dawn walk for Maytree Respite Centre – a safe house for people in suicidal crisis. The charity currently has a house in London, but is now fundraising to open one in Manchester.
Around fifty of us gathered in the pitch black at 5am, hardly even able to see each other’s faces. The early start was intentional – symbolising how much harder life can seem in the dead of night with no-one to talk to. But the sun quickly started to rise, and the weary walkers started to recognise people they knew and make new friends along the way, talking to each other about why we were there.
It’s a cause close to our hearts as you can read by clicking here.
We have smashed our fundraising target, so a huge thank you to those of you who helped us do that. Please still donate if you were planning to – the money will directly help individuals in the direst of straits, and provide some respite and reassurance to their families for a few days at least.
