SIA Cycle Ride to Abersoch

Published Date: 3rd May 2016

The week has finally arrived and plans have changed, I was originally going to be setting off this Friday with 11 friends to cycle from where we live in Hale, Cheshire (think Cheshire Plains) through beautiful (but hilly!) Snowdonia to Abersoch. A total of 140 miles done over 2 days with an overnight stop in Bala.

However, I will now be attending a funeral on Friday so plan to do day 1 of the ride tomorrow instead. My brother has kindly offered to cycle with me and despite a fairly recent knee replacement he still loves any excuse to get on his bike! I will then wave the rest of the girls off on Friday morning and join them in Bala later in the day ready for day 2 of the cycle ride to Abersoch on Saturday.

Our group (Heels-on-Wheels) have a shared passion for cycling and last year cycled the “Coast & Castles” route from Tynemouth to Edinburgh and the year before we completed the Coast2Coast from Whitehaven to Tynemouth. We were asked by many people at the time, if we were doing the rides for charity; we weren’t as we were unsure we could do the distances so it could have been embarrassing! As it turned out we could, so this year we decided to do some good, as well as have a lot of fun.

Last December we had a table at the “Bicycle Ball”, an event organised Cathy & Pauline, two friends who talked about what a remarkable job the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) do. We were inspired to support this worthwhile charity and decided to raise money through sponsorship of our bike ride. So here we are!

The SIA is a national charity dedicated to helping the 40,000 spinal cord injured people in the UK rebuild their lives. More information about what an amazing job they do can be found on their website:

https://www.spinal.co.uk/

In their words: “Our vision is that all spinal cord injured people receive the specialist treatment, care, rehabilitation and support they need to be fully integrated and empowered participants in society”.

To achieve this they rely hugely on charitable donations so if you would like to make a contribution please visit:

They are very grateful for any support, it really doesn’t matter how small the amount. Please note that all money raised goes directly to the charity.

For the month of May MRC are contributing £10 from every invoice raised to the SIA.

Thanks for your time,

Sally
