On the 13th of May, Dawn Thornton, one of our long standing collators, and a band of intrepid adventurers embarked on a 24 mile trek to conquer the infamous Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge. Dawn’s mission was to raise money for a StrikeForce Power Soccer wheelchair for her son Jason, who has Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy. The disorder means that mobility for Jason is extremely limited so participating in mainstream sports can be challenging or even nigh on impossible. Joining a local power soccer team has allowed Jason to experience all the positives that go along with team sports like camaraderie, team work and competitive play. However to continue playing at the level Jason has risen to requires the purchase of a more advanced wheelchair which costs about the same as a new car. Dawn was able to raise more than £2,000, which is a fantastic result that all of us here at MRC are very proud of.
